It seems that the McCain and Obama presidential campaigns have been so preoccupied that they failed to satisfy the filing deadline to be represented on the election ballots in the state of Texas. The Libertarian candidate, Bob Barr, has filed a lawsuit demanding that the state remove them from the ballot.
It
seems to me that both campaigns (McCain and Obama), judging from the
daily barrage of FactCheck.org reports, are spending so much time slinging
FUD at each other and the public that it's a miracle they have enough
spare time to make any filing deadlines at all. They should certainly
be made to pay a price for their foolishly misplaced focus.
Perhaps we could just skip the election, pick one of the "minor" party candidates at random as President, and then for inaugural entertainment lock Obama and McCain in a cavern with a big warm geothermal mud pit and lots of cameras?

Addendum: I figured out where the bird(s) impacted:
right on the patio door. I
happened to notice a small streak of bird shit on the glass, and
then
noticed a dusty ghost-like "feather-duster splash" about a foot and a
half above that. This is all the more amazing considering that my
patio has a permanent canopy over it, the entire patio area is bordered
by a six-foot fence that is no further than five feet from the edge of
the canopy on either side,
and
I have a security door which was open and set perpendicular at the
time; that took some pretty fancy - or desperate - flying to get down
in there and smack the patio door....

Hearing and feeling thumps and shudders outside my home is always disturbing to me, but certainly nothing new. Late yesterday afternoon, though, I felt the loudest thump ever; it made the whole townhouse shudder, as if someone had actually hit my house with a car or sledgehammer. It scared the bejesus out of the cats - yes, they were quite religious until yesterday - and certainly got my attention.
I rushed out the front door, assuming that was where the impact had happened or that I could at least get a good view from there, but there was nothing, so I raced to the back door and the patio. As I neared the patio door, I saw a pigeon sitting on the patio!

After going an entire summer without even checking TV listings more than a handful of times, I think I might be done with TV altogether. I won't miss those syndicated episodes of Stargate or a new season of Boston Legal or House if I don't even know about it.
Maybe I won't even bother getting a new TV or converter box after all....

Microsoft thinks Jerry Seinfeld can help them sucker me into developing an emotional connection with Microsoft products or services. O RLY?
Fuck that. Microsoft, good luck trying to sucker me into having any shred of
emotional connection to any of your products. First, I don't have any
emotional connection with any product or service. Doing so tends to
wind up putting me at an economic disadvantage, and I don't like being
on the bend-over-and-say-cheese end of any transaction. Second, even if
I was gonna give into such stupid behavior, Microsoft would be the last
name with which I'd consider doing it.
If this ad campaign works at all, it will only be because P.T.
Barnum was right. It certainly won't work with me or any geeks I know.

I have a Brother P-Touch PT-1280 labeller, which I bought earlier this year. It can be powered by six AAA batteries, but if one is cost- and environment-conscious, it also has an input jack for 7 to 9 Volts DC. Brother does not include an AC adapter with it: it is only available separately from Brother itself at a rather excessive cost.
That only half of the story I perceive, though.
